Oscar Nominations 2024:-“Oppenheimer,” the atomic bomb biopic directed by Christopher Nolan, solidified its position as a major player in the awards season on Tuesday morning by receiving 13 nominations for the 96th Academy Awards.
At this year Oscars Award ceremony (airing live at 7 p.m. EST/4 PT on ABC), “Oppenheimer” is nominated for best picture, best actor (Cillian Murphy), supporting actor (Robert Downey Jr.), and supporting actress (Emily Blunt). According to nominations announced Tuesday morning, Martin Scorsese’s Western crime epic “Killers of the Flower Moon” received ten, while the fantastical dark comedy “Poor Things” received eleven.
Hollywood’s highest honor, best picture, will be shared by those three films: Greta Gerwig’s pop culture phenomenon “Barbie,” the 1970s holiday classic “The Holdovers,” and a romantic drama. “Past Lives,” satire on race “American Fiction,” “Maestro,” the biopic about Leonard Bernstein, and the French courtroom thriller Holocaust drama “Anatomy of a Fall” and “The Zone of Interest.”
The fact that three of this year’s best picture nominees are directed by women for the first time—Juliet Triet (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Celine Song (“Past Lives”), and Gerwig—is remarkable, even though Triet is the only one nominated for best director.
Breakout star of “Killers of the Flower Moon,” Lily Gladstone created history by being the first Native American to receive a best actress nomination. In the category are Carey Mulligan (“Maestro”), Sandra Hüller (“Anatomy of a Fall”), Annette Bening (“Nyad”), and fellow Globe winner Emma Stone (“Poor Things”).
